Sex and Relationships Course and Assessment (SRCA)

together, couple, people-4843006

Course Overview

Social media and peer misinformation can distort the truth around sex and healthy relationships for some young people, which can lead to increased depression, anxiety, unplanned pregnancies and avoidable sexually transmitted infections. The SRCA creates a safe and open discussion around key aspects of sex and relationships, to help young people make more informed decisions; increasing the likelihood of positive future relationships.

Who is the SRCA aimed at?

 Young people who:

  • Are reaching sexual maturity
  • Have shown an interest in sex or admitted to being sexually active
  • Are trying to improve their knowledge and confidence in having healthy relationships
  • Are finding it difficult to uphold or maintain healthy relationships with a partner

Course Content

The SRCA gives guidance to young people who may not have the opportunity to discuss the topics with suitable adults. These are not skills normally taught in schools or colleges and can be seen as part of life-skills essential for successful transition into adulthood. Young people can feel confident that the SRCA, will increase their likelihood to recognise and sustain healthy intimate/romantic relationships.

The training topics covered:

  • Love and affection
  • Casual sex
  • Making babies
  • Sexual Assault/Rape
  • Pornography
  • Incest
  • Pedophilia
  • Prostitution

Training Breakdown

The course covers 8 sections (up to 45min each with a facilitator). There are also short multiple-choice quizzes after each completed section to strengthen learning. The interventions encourage discussion and thought provoking choice options with case study scenarios that are designed to be relative and engaging.
